Above is a ceramic figurine of a tanuki (raccoon) - a beloved figure of Japanese folklore. You’ll see them all over Japan.
We are blushing as we write this but Tanuki are known not only for stealthiness, cleverness and the ability to “shape shift”, but for a greatly exaggerated body part (or two). If you are familiar with Japanese folklore about this animal then you know how this figurine builds on the erotic elements of the folklore surrounding it. Here, we leave you to run to Wikipedia to do your research.
If you’ve ever wanted a one-of-a-kind-in-the-world addition to your garden - and one that is guaranteed to inspire questions (and giggles) from your guests, this is it!
This precison carved, high density granite Tanuki figure (some customers say a little too lifelike) was commissioned for creation and then sculpted in southeastern China. It is extremely heavy (one toenail was sacrificed repositioning it in the store). Once placed in your garden it is not likely to wander off! Approximate dimensions: 25”H x 12”D x 14”W.
